In 2014, I decided to expand my knowledge and began a Masters of Science in Law program at McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento. My studies concentrated on family law, mediation and settlement. During this time I was accepted as an extern with a local attorney/mediator at her private practice. This experience included all aspects of divorce mediation and provided me a very solid, hands-on experience. I graduated from McGeorge and enjoy working privately with couples in mediation at my own private practice in Sacramento. Divorce is a very private and difficult event. Divorce mediation vs. divorce litigation is a much more respectful, amicable way to approach this process. I'm combining 18 years experience as a therapist, mediation experience and my family law degree so that I can help couples and families weather this difficult event. My unique experience combines nearly two decades of family and couples conflict resolution experience with an intensive family law degree.
My past experience includes receiving Masters Degrees in Marriage and Family Therapy and School Counseling from California State University, Sacramento in December 2000. I spent eight years at Valley Community Counseling Services as a Registered Marriage Family Therapist Intern and School Counselor. During this time I treated clients in both clinical and school settings providing individual, family and group counseling on a variety of mental health issues to include depression, anxiety, marital issues, domestic violence and issues related to addiction. I provided family reunification counseling and skills training for families involved with Child Protective Services and foster care. I worked extensively with adults in difficult and sometimes emotionally and/or physically abusive relationships. In addition, I have facilitated adult male and female anger management groups.
While providing school and child counseling, I facilitated anger management, grief and life skills groups to youth and adolescents. Over the past 18 years I have worked with children on an individual and group basis on issues related to divorce, grief, depression, anxiety, anger, self injurious behavior, drug use and issues related to abuse.
In 2010 I began working in private practice. Since then I have worked with individuals, couples and families on very complex emotional and mental health issues, resulting from both environmental and biological influences. I have spent a tremendous amount of time working with children and adolescents struggling with emotional, academic and mental health issues, sometimes as a result of divorce.
My goal in divorce mediation is to find an outcome that both parties find reasonable and fair. I will provide an environment that will be both nurturing and educational and will begin a positive relationship between divorced couples.
